NC Countdown to College FAQs

Transcripts

There are two ways to send your electronic North Carolina high school transcript to an NC college/university:

1. With Your Online Admission Application:
When submitting your application on CFNC.org, simply check the answer "Yes - Send my transcript!" to have your transcript sent automatically.

2. Through the Transcript Request Form
You can also request transcripts directly with the Transcript Request Form. After verifying your basic information, you can select up to 5 colleges at a time to send your transcript to. There's no overall limit --you can just send to five colleges per request.

No, CFNC and the NC Department of Public Instruction collaborate so that NC public high school students at participating high schools can send an unlimited number of free electronic high school transcripts to 110 NC colleges and universities.  You can use this transcript system even if you did not use CFNC to submit your application.

There could be several reasons that the transcript request has failed. The three most common are:

  1. Matching Error: The system couldn't find a match based on the information provided.
  2. Transcript File Error: There was an issue processing the transcript file.
  3. Transcript Not Available: Your transcript may not be on file -- for example, if you graduated before 2006 or if your high school doesn't participate in the electronic transcript system.

What information is used to match your transcript?

To locate your transcript, the system uses the following details:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • NC School Number
  • Date of Birth

Troubleshooting Tips

If your request shows a "failed" status, here are some things to double check:

  • Name formatting: Make sure your name matches your school records exactly. If you have two last names, check for spaces or hyphens. If you graduated, make sure it's the name at the time of graduation.
  • Special Characters: Any hyphens, apostrophes, or other special characters must match exactly.
  • NC Student Number: Make sure the number is correct.
  • Extra spaces: Avoid any spaces before or after names or numbers.

Still not working?

If everything looks correct and it's still not wokring, your next step is to contact your high school or school district. They can:

  • Confirm how your information is listed in your student records (both current and graduated students)
  • Send your transcript directly, if needed

Please note: CFNC does not have access to your school records, so we are unable to confirm your details.
