Daughtry Family Foundation Scholarship

Purpose: The Daughtry Family Foundation supports promising and motivated students seeking a degree from a traditional four-year college or university, community college, or other similar institution for post-secondary education.

Scholarships of up to $25,000 will be granted for one year and are renewable for students in good standing and who continue to meet the criteria listed below for up to three additional years.

All scholarship applicants shall submit an online application that includes biographical information, the applicant’s academic record, and additional supporting material as outlined below.

Scholarship awards must be used exclusively for:

  • Tuition at post-secondary educational institutions
  • On campus room and board expenses and related fees
  • Expenses for books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at such institutions
  • All scholarship payments shall be made to the academic institution.

Geographic Focus: This scholarship is for current residents of Johnston and Sampson Counties, North Carolina.

Criteria:

  • The recipient must be about to graduate or a recent graduate from high school or its equivalent
  • Considerations in selecting scholarship recipients will include:
    • academic performance (Minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA)*
    • financial need*
    • demonstration of overcoming personal and economic hardships
    • letters of recommendation (total of two)
    • the conclusions that the selection committee might draw from a personal interview as to the individual’s motivation, character, ability, and potential

*Students receiving scholarship awards must continue to meet these requirements throughout the four-year scholarship time frame, including maintaining a minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA.  

Scholarship Attachments: All applications must include the following items:

  • Prepare and submit a personal essay (not to exceed 500 words) on one of the following topics:
    • What is the most interesting thing that’s happened to you in the past year?
    • What brings you joy?
    • What high school activity had the greatest impact on you and why?
    • Tell us what you want us to know about you and why you are a good candidate for this scholarship. 
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation (from a teacher or faculty member, academic dean or advisor, athletic coach or extracurricular or church leader, etc.)
  • Transcripts from high school
  • FAFSA Submission Summary (can attach a PDF with relevant information as available)
