Students and parents invited to attend free events to learn the different ways to pay for college
RALEIGH, N.C. – (February 1, 2023) – During Financial Aid Awareness Month, the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA), in partnership with College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC), is hosting the How to Pay for College webinar series as part of Financial Aid Awareness Month. The free, virtual series will be held each Thursday in February and will focus on the many ways students and families can pay for college.
The How to Pay for College webinar series will focus on ways to pay for college, where to find local scholarships, how to compare financial aid award letters, and more.
How to Pay for College Webinar Series:
- Week 1 | How to Pay for College –
Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Learn about the common ways students and families pay for their education. We’ll also share additional places to search for support that you may not have thought of yet.
- Week 2 | Scholarships “Ask the Experts” panel
Thursday, February 9, 2023, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
This week financial aid and scholarship experts from across the state will discuss how to identify local scholarships and how to put your best foot forward in your application.
- Week 3 | FAFSA’s done — show me the money!
Thursday, February 16, 2023, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
We will provide insight on how to read your Student Aid Report, how to correct any errors, what to do if you’re selected for verification, and how to work with your college financial aid office if your or your family’s financial situation has changed.
- Week 4 | Evaluating financial aid award letters
Thursday, February 23, 2023, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
We will help you consider the financial aid award packages you receive so you can make the best choice for your educational goals.
“There are many sources for families to tap into when they are deciding on how to pay for college,” said Kathy Hastings McDonald, NCSEAA’s associate director, outreach. “In this webinar series, financial aid experts will walk students and families through the three main ways to pay: student and family funds; federal, state, and school-funded financial aid; and gap funding that includes employer education benefits, credit through exams, and local scholarships.”
